GSWS Class of 2020 Awardees

This year, GSWS seniors received a number of awards recognizing their scholarly work and service to the community.

Two seniors were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa: Wesley Neal and Chloe Tan.

Wesley Neal was also awarded the Penn Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alumni Association Student Leadership Award and GSWS/APC’s Lynda S. Hart Award in Sexuality Studies.

Desteni Rivers received the Maaku: The Black Cultural Center’s Malcolm X (El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) Award in recognition of outstanding service to the Penn community.

Briar Essex received GSWS/APC’s Lynda S. Hart Award in Sexuality Studies and the Creative Writing Honor's Thesis Prize.

Chloe Tan was honored with GSWS/APC’s Carroll Smith-Rosenberg Senior Thesis Award in Women’s Studies for her senior honors thesis in GSWS, titled: Matters of Heart(land): Housing Kinship, and State Power in Singapore.
