Ann Matter was Director 1981-83 and 1998-99. She is William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Religious Studies and was the first R. Jean Brownlee Endowed Term Professor in the School of Arts and Sciences, a term chair dedicated to Penn faculty engaged in gender and women’s studies. Her books include Mind Matters: Studies of Medieval and Early Modern Intellectual History in Honour of Marcia Colish, edited with Cary J.
