The fall 2011 "Potential and Current Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Major/Minor Social and Info Session" was a great success! The event was held in Dr. Shannon Lundeen's home (on-campus) and was very well attended. Students who attended met new people, got information about the requirements for the program, looked over the long list of courses offered in GSWS, and also got to hear about all of the different career opportunities available to Penn students who graduate with a degree or a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. First and second year students interested in the program heard from juniors and seniors who have chosen to major or minor in GSWS. The upper-level students discussed the critical perspective that GSWS courses have given them, and discussed the influence this perspective has had not only in their approach to other courses but in their everyday lives. They also discussed in detail the richness and diversity of GSWS Program's course offerings and how the Program has meshed with their own plans of study here at Penn (some students are minors majoring in other fields, others are majors, while others are double majors).
We are thrilled to have so many new students interested in majoring or minoring in GSWS at Penn. If you know of anyone interested in learning more about the program in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies at Penn, please put them in touch with us!
