Penn for Immigrant Rights hosts Expanding Sanctuary: Film Screening & Conversation on Activism and Civic Engagement.
The evening will start with a welcome and introduction outlining the event’s goals of encouraging dialogue between students and the broader community around issues of activism and civic life. Attendees will then watch a 20-minute screening of Expanding Sanctuary, a film highlighting immigrant rights and grassroots organizing.
Following the screening, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the film’s key themes before engaging in a moderated panel discussion. Featuring filmmaker Kristal Sotomayor, Hispanic voter registration advocate Daniel Galarraga, and other Philadelphia activists, the panel will explore personal experiences, strategies, and challenges in civic engagement.
The event will conclude with an open Q&A, audience reflections, and closing remarks, encouraging attendees to connect lessons from the conversation to their own advocacy.
