Join us in welcoming FQT Visiting Scholar Cat Dawson as they present "Eternal Forms, Ephemeral Bodies: the Paradox of Queer Monumentality" in our Works-in-Progress Series.
This talk considers the relationship of the AIDS Quilt to the Western monumental tradition, focusing on the historical conditions of the Quilt’s departure from the historical tropes of memorial culture most frequently found in tributes to national heroes or war dead. This lecture explores whether and to what degree queer forms of mourning are reconcilable with dominant forms of monumentality.
