Joing BGAPSA and Makuu Black Cultural Center for a Fireside Chat on Black Activism, Systemic Racism, and Empowering Power.

This event will feature Amalia Z. Dache, PhD, Akira D. Rodriguez, PhD, Krystal Strong, PhD. 

Akira Z. Dache, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education in the Graduate School of Education. Dr. Dache’s major research areas are postcolonial geographic contexts of higher education, Afro-Latina/o/x studies, community and student resistance, and the college-access experiences of African diasporic students and communities. 

Akira D. Rodriguez, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of City and Regional Planning in The Weitzman School of Design. Dr. Rodriguez's research examines the politics of urban planning, or the ways that disenfranchised groups re-appropriate their marginalized spaces in the city to gain access to and sustain urban political power. 

Krystal Strong, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Literacy, Culture, and International Education in The Graduate School of Education. Dr. Strong’s research and teaching focus on student and community activism, the cultural and political power of youth, new media and popular culture, and the role of education as a site of political struggle with a geographic focus on Africa and the African Diaspora.
