Join the Kelly Writers House on Wednesday, January 29, at 12:00 PM, for a reading by Joshua Whitehead, an Oji- nêhiyaw, Two-Spirit storyteller and academic from Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). Whitehead's book of poetry, Full Metal-Indigiqueer, was shortlisted for the 2017 Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Poetry. His debut novel, Johnny Appleseed, braids together human experience into a tight understanding of Indigeneity and queerness. Davy Knittle will introduce and a Q&A will follow. Joshua Whitehead is an Oji-nêhiyaw, Two-Spirit member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is the author of Full Metal-Indigiqueer and Johnny Appleseed. Currently he is an ABD doctoral student at the University of Calgary (Treaty 7) where he focuses on Indigenous literatures and cultures with a specialization in gender and sexuality. His forthcoming book, Making Love With The Land, a creative non-fiction manuscript that details Indigeneity, queerness, and mental health, is slated to be released in 2021 with Knopf Canada.
