Intersectionality at a Crossroads: Race, Feminism, and the Trials of Social Media

Join us for the 2016-2017 Judith Roth Berkowitz Lecture featuring Penn's own Anthea Butler (Associate Professor of Religious Studies)

Social Media has changed the ways in which feminists collaborate together, yet has also exposed the deep divisions across racial and class lines. In recent years, attacks on Black and White women activists on social media have not only hurt feminists, but exposed the lack of intersectionality, cooperation, and the exploitation of labor. Professor Butler's talk will explore these problems and divisions and offering insight on how social media can improve connections and causes between feminists and their pressing concerns.

Location: Cohen Hall, G17

Free and open to the public
