Towards a Genealogy of the Educated Muslim Woman/Girl traces the history of the present convergence on the figure of the girl within international development policy and practice. A key discursive formation within this discourse is the ‘girl-in-crisis’ who awaits rescue efforts – educative, military, and otherwise – to guarantee positive futurities. The book disentangling a specific modality of this figure – the Muslim girl – by tracing the making of educated female subjects across key moments in the history of colonial India and postcolonial Pakistan from 1857 to 2015.
