Please join us for a conversation about preparing materials for going on the job market led by Cathy Turner, Senior Associate Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
This seminar will focus on how to develop a Statement of Teaching Philosophy. For this particular seminar, we have designed a workshop format. Participants should send a 1.5-2 page statement of their teaching philosophy in advance of the seminar. At the seminar, Cathy Turner will guide students in smaller and larger group discussion of people’s statements, with a focus on expressing your teaching values for the job market.
In preparing your draft Statement of Teaching Philosophy, consider both what it is you try to accomplish in the classroom and how you go about doing that. In other words, give your readers some specific examples of things you do and why.
Given that our interest is Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, you should think about what you want students to get out of a GSWS class.
While this is a pedagogy seminar about the job market, we welcome and encourage students at all levels of their graduate career to attend.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, September 13, and please send your draft Statement of Teaching Philosophy by Thursday, September 15 to Demie Kurz, dkurz@sas.upenn.edu
The seminar will take place in the second floor seminar room of 3810 Walnut Street. Lunch will be served.
