Gender-Based Approaches to Work on Urbanization and Migration

Panel Discussion at the Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Global Challenges of Urbanization and Migration Workshop. Convened by Perry World House

Jaya Ramji-Nogales, Professor of Law, Temple University; Anne Teitelman, Associate Professor of Nursing, Upenn; Janice Madden, Professor of Regional Science, Sociology, Urban Studies, and Real Estate, UPenn, and Nancy Hirschmann, Professor of Political Science and Director, Alice Paul Center and GSWS Program (moderator).

This half day workshop aims to identify and explore some of the most pressing questions in the space of urbanization and migration by showcasing the work of Penn faculty; the panels will be organized so as to highlight different methodological and disciplinary approaches to this research. External participants, including Jaya Ramji-Nogales, I. Herman Stern Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Institute for International Law and Public Policy at Temple University School of Law, and Ananya Roy, Professor and Meyer and Renee Luskin Chair in Inequality and Democracy and Director of the Institute on Inequality and Democracy at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, have also been invited to present and provide feedback. The workshop will help inform the work of the Global Innovation Institute, the research component of Perry World House, which will bring rigorous interdisciplinary research to bear on pressing global policy challenges. This workshop features panels organized by Penn faculty members Emilio Parrado (Sociology), Nancy Hirschmann (Political Science and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies), and Stefan Al (PennDesign). This event is co-sponsored by Penn Design, the Alice Paul Center for Research on Gender, Sexuality and Women, and Penn's School of Arts and Sciences.
