The Program in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies
We in the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies and the Program in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies unequivocally support Lia Thomas. In this, we join Penn Athletics and the Ivy League, Thomas’s Penn teammates, and over 300 of Lia’s fellow college swimmers from around the country. As a group of Law Organizations succinctly put it in a recent letter, “Lia Thomas belongs on the Penn women’s swim team, Lia Thomas belongs in sports, and all trans athletes belong in sports.” We call on all in the Penn community to join us in our commitment to living up to our university’s stated values of inclusion and diversity.
