Trans Literacy Project Seminar on Supporting Trans Youth

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Penn LGBT Center (3907 Spruce Street)

This location is ADA accessible

In our fourth and final workshop, researchers, organizers, youth activists, and community educators will come together to discuss their pedagogical approaches to supporting, advancing, and prioritizing trans youth. This workshop discusses educational research, K-12 school policies, and community education models which conceptualize trans literacy across a variety of spaces including classrooms and youth advocacy programming. Possible questions include: how might researchers and educators increase support for trans and gender-nonconforming youth? In what ways can collaborative community efforts and organizing address barriers to trans equity in education? How do we foster youth leadership in trans communities, and how do we move beyond the framework of “participants” to amplify youth voices in the fight for trans liberation?

This workshop is part of the Trans Literacy Project, an initiative sponsored by the Alice Paul Center at the University of Pennsylvania. For more information on the project and ongoing events through 2018-2019, click here.
