Preparing for the Job Market: Developing a Teaching Philosophy

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

3810 Walnut, 2nd Floor

Pedagogy Seminar with Cathy Turner, Senior Associate Director, Penn Center for Teaching and Learning

This seminar will focus on how to develop a Statement of Teaching Philosophy. For this particular seminar, we have designed a workshop format. Participants should send a 1.5-2 page statement of their teaching philosophy in advance of the seminar. At the seminar, Cathy Turner will guide students in smaller and larger group discussion of people’s statements, with a focus on expressing your teaching values for the job market. In preparing their draft Statement of Teaching Philosophy, attendees should consider both what it is they wish to accomplish in the classroom and how to go about doing that. Given that our interest is Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies, attendees should think about what they want students to get out of a GSWS class. RSVP to attend to: rachelst@upenn.edu
