DIscussion with Professor Jonathan Zimmerman on the Global History of Sex Education

The Penn Education Society, along with Penn Women SPEAK, the Penn History Department and the Alice Paul Center for Research on Gender, Sexuality & Women will be hosting GSE professor Dr. Jonathan Zimmerman for a discussion about his recently published book, Too Hot to Handle: A Global History of Sex Education

Dr. Zimmerman is a former Peace Corps volunteer and public school social studies teacher, who is currently a professor of the history of education at GSE, after having spent 20 years at New York University. His research has covered many topics, including books about sex and alcohol education, the history of religion in curriculum, and historical memory in public schools. His most recent work is about campus politics and debates over political correctness in the United States.


Dr. Zimmerman will be discussing his book Too Hot to Handle, in which he traces the development of school-based sex education and the forms of opposition such curriculums have faced and continue to face in countries around the world.
