Graduate Pedagogy Seminar "Recovering Lost Voices in the Classroom" with Prof. Karen Detlefsen

Friday, April 12, 2013 - 9:30am

436 Cohen Hall

Please join us for a Graduate Pedagogy Seminar led by Penn Philosophy Professor, Karen Detlefsen. This pedagogy seminar's topic is something that applies to teaching the work of historically vulnerable and subjugated people in the contemporary classroom. What historical figures in your field(s) have had their contributions undervalued, underrated, or completely elided on the basis of their race, nationality, religion, gender, economic class, social class, ability, age, or sexuality? How do you make their ideas as well as the attempt to garner them scholarly attention relevant in today's classroom? Professor Detlefsen will lead us in a discussion of how to teach the work of a thinker who has has been, or continues to be, rendered mute or unworthy of scholarly attention due to his or her social/subject position at the time s/he was writing.

Please RSVP (below) to reserve a lunch!
